Raymond Kordonowy, MD

I wish to welcome the readers to our first IPALC patient newsletter. The Independent Physician's Association of Lee County is a regional doctors association. Our mission is about patient centered care. We value the doctor-patient relationship as the primary focus.

Our association has been in place for several years. 2015 represents my second year as the president. Patients of mine know that I am a fierce advocate for both patients and doctors. Over my 20 plus years of being a doctor, I have witnessed numerous assaults on our relationship mostly with the battle-cry of cost as the reason for the interference. With each passing regulation reportedly passed as an attempt to make your doctors better we find ourselves (doctors and patients alike) more and more separated from direct contact, disillusioned and discouraged. IPALC is a positive response to this unwelcome trend.

IPALC recognizes that doctors taking care of patients is what our profession is about. Remaining independent is critical to allowing your doctor to keep you as their primary focus. Being owned and operated by outside entities creates conflicts of interest which is rapidly and instinctually felt by patients.I encourage readers to check out our website. It functions as a source of information. Your independent doctors are featured on this website. You can learn about different doctors and their practices. You can seek a referral using our various search options. If you find this option difficult to use, simply send us an e-mail and we will help assist you in getting the answer you seek.

Not only are we availing ourselves to the public but our association is actively working to improve patient access within the community. We routinely inform the hospital system of community problems but also offer constructive solutions. As an example, recently Dr. Khalid Sabha and I were involved with hospital administration, orthopedic physicians and hospitalists to help rollout an acute fracture care pathway.

Presently the prices of generic medications are jumping double and triple digits- this makes no market sense and we independent doctors know this and plan to address this!  We have a committee currently working on developing a prescription list (formulary) of medications our association of doctors routinely recommend. We plan to make this list public information. We are doing this in an attempt to take back proper control of the medications you are offered and exposed to- based upon safety, effectiveness and cost.   Effectiveness, safety, ease of use and cost are all factors in prescription value. Who is best qualified to know these variables more than a doctor of medicine?

Readers are encouraged to send us request for topics they want covered or other areas of interest. I have a free e-book that contains tasty and healthy recipes from my prior practice patient newsletter. I encourage you and your friends to download this.

The doctors of IPALC would sincerely appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you. If you don't presently see one of our fine doctors, pleases consider us for any future needs.

Sincerely Submitted,

Raymond W. Kordonowy MD ABIM ABCL, President of IPALC
